Beer Pairing Recipe - Piehole Porter

Piehole Beef Stew

Beat the winter chill with a delightful recipe that'll make your taste buds dance! Our award-winning Piehole Porter brew is the perfect companion to this simple dish, ensuring a heartwarming experience. Get ready to savor the flavors of the season!

You will need :

1 lbs chuck roast cut into 1 inch cubes

4 pieces of bacon chopped

3 medium celery stalks chopped

3 medium carrots chopped

2 yellow onion chopped 

3-4 fresh garlic cloves (minced)

1 small bunch fresh thyme

6oz tomato paste

1½ pints chicken stock

1 pint piehole porter beer

2tbs canola or olive oil

Salt & Pepper to taste


  1. Salt and pepper pieces of meat. Using a large pot or skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Sear cut pieces of chuck roast and bacon on all sides remove and Place in bowl and set aside

  2. Using the same pan add onions and garlic and cook until onions begin to soften and turn brown.

  3. Using the beer and chicken stock add to the existing pan using it to deglaze the pan. Then add celery, carrots, thyme, pieces of meat,drippings and all and tomato paste.

  4. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for about 2-3 hours uncovered stirring occasionally allowing sauce to thicken and meat to become tender.

  5. Serve with your favorite mashed potato recipe and a nice loaf of fresh baked bread and enjoy!
